Michelle N. Mathis

Michelle Mathis has helped hundreds of people with their legal problems in Hampton Roads. Prior to joining Cowardin, Kim and Riddle, she has was in private practice for four years, first as a solo practitioner in Norfolk, Virginia, and then as an associate at The O’Brien Law Firm in Hampton, Virginia. During this time she litigated a wide variety of cases, including protective orders, misdemeanors and felonies, unlawful detainers, military divorce and other family law disputes. Her clients have described her as caring, knowledgeable, trustworthy, and a good listener.

Originally from California, Ms. Mathis graduated from the Pepperdine University School of Law in Malibu, California. She started her legal career as a JAG attorney in Norfolk, Virginia and Washington, DC. She spent her six years on active duty advocating for sailors and their dependents, drafting wills, defending sailors at courts-martial, clerking with the Navy and Marine Corps Court of Appeals and deploying onboard the USNS COMFORT. She continues to serve as a Navy Reservist.
